The Bad News…You Are Powerless – The Good News…You Are Powerless

In the 12 Step program, step one is, “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol…that our lives had become unmanageable.”  It’s a recognition that I’ve come to the end of myself.  It sounds so much like what Jesus said to those who wanted to follow him – “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”  We have to ask ourselves, then…why do we spend so much time, trying to look like we have it all together…when in reality, we don’t?

The first step to living authentically is acknowledging that we limp…and are powerless.
